Dexter Duquiatan
Dexter has always been fascinated by abstract art, and he doesn’t hesitate to try out different approaches on the spur of the moment to develop his own style. His choice of color is heavily influenced by moods, which he derives from his surroundings and daily life. Directly depicting non-representation on the canvas gives Duquiatan more than just freedom to express himself.
Duquiatan has been a part of Metro Manila group displays since 1996. The 32nd Shell National Students Art Competition, the 16th DPC·PLOT Visual Arts Competition, the Robinsons Land National Art Competition 2018, and the Robinsons Land ARTablado Create Painting Competition 2020 have recognized his artwork.
A Fine Arts alumnus from the Technological University of the Philippines (TUP), Duquiatan is not a believer in limiting oneself to a specific style. “Do not stick to one technique or style. Develop your style with no boundaries, and do not be afraid to explore them. It’s somehow a trial and error. Then after that, you figure out how to make it better.”
